The Lime Butterfly Papilio demoleus

The Lime Butterfly Papilio demoleus

It belongs to the group of swallowtail butterflies. The butterfly is sometimes referred to as the checkered swallowtail, lime swallowtail, and lemon butterfly. The host plants that these common names refer to are typically citrus species like cultivated limes. In contrast to other swallowtail butterflies, its tail is not very noticeable. The lime swallowtail has the lowest life span among butterflies when considering the adult stage; male adults pass away after four days, while female adults die after a week. Although native to Asia and Australia, butterflies are regarded as invasive pests in other regions of the world. The butterfly has made its way to Mahé, Seychelles, and Hispaniola island, in the Western Hemisphere.
