Description: A small, evergreen tree reaching a height of about 2m with peeling and flaky bark that are leathery. Glossy green leaves are simple and opposite. Inflorescence is axillary fascicles with 1-2 flowers per axis. Flowers are 2-3cm long. Flower buds are pubescent. Fruit a berry that are about 2cm long.  

 

 

Distribution:  Cultivated all troughout the world.

Uses: Leaves are used to treat diarrhea in its native areas. The bark and leaves are prepared as decoction and are used in dysentery and diarrhea. Fruit is edible.
