The Association of Computer Science, known as CODEC, at Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences (RCMAS) is a dynamic platform aimed at fostering student engagement, innovation, and skill development in the field of computer science. CODEC organizes a variety of programs and activities throughout the academic year to enhance the learning experience and professional growth of its members.
The department offers an undergraduate and a postgraduate program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the ever-evolving tech landscape:
• Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)
• Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence
The department is staffed by a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty members who are passionate about teaching and mentoring students. They bring a wealth of knowledge and industry experience, ensuring that our students receive a well-rounded education. The faculty members are also involved in research activities, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of computer applications.
Leadership within the department has played a crucial role in its development. Mr. Joby Jacob served as the Head of the Department (HOD) until May 2022. Since June 2022, Mr. Sijo Jacob has taken over as the HOD, continuing to guide the department towards academic excellence and innovation.
The department’s students have consistently excelled in academics, bringing laurels to the institution. Ms. Anu Stephen from the 2021-2024 BCA batch secured the first rank in the MG University examination held in March 2024, demonstrating the department’s commitment to academic excellence. Merin Jai from the 2019-2022 BCA batch secured the 10th rank in the MG University degree examination in March 2022. Additionally, Keerthana Harikumar from the 2020-2023 BCA batch achieved the second rank, and P S Nayana from the same batch secured the fifth rank in the MG University degree examination held in March 2023.
The Department maintains strong ties with the IT industry, ensuring that our curriculum remains relevant and up-to-date with the latest industry trends. regular industry interaction sessions, guest lectures, and internships to provide students with practical insights and exposure to real-world challenges are organized.
The alumni network is an asset, with graduates achieving significant success in academia, industry, and entrepreneurship. They actively contribute to the department through guest lectures, mentorship programs, and by providing financial support for various initiatives, creating a robust community of lifelong learners and contributors.
As part of commitment to social responsibility, the department engages in various community outreach programs. These include digital literacy initiatives, technical workshops for school students, and collaborations with local organizations to leverage technology for social good.
CODEC’s intercollegiate tech fest DEXTRA is an annual event that brings together students from various institutions to compete and collaborate on innovative tech challenges. Featuring a range of activities such as hackathons, coding competitions, and technical workshops, the fest fosters creativity, learning, and networking among budding technologists.
TEKSPARK: An exciting interdepartmental event organized by CODEC at RCMAS, designed to foster collaboration and innovation among students from various disciplines. The event features diverse activities, including technical challenges, interactive workshops, and project showcases, promoting cross-departmental learning and camaraderie.
LETS MEET UP: an interactive program designed to enhance collaboration and communication among students by facilitating engaging discussions and collaborative projects. LETS MEET UP aims to bridge gaps between students from different backgrounds and disciplines, fostering a more integrated and dynamic learning environment.
The Freshers’ Day program “SINERGIA” organized by the Department of Computer Science at RCMAS is a vibrant and welcoming event designed to ease new students into campus life. By incorporating interactive sessions, team-building activities, and introductory workshops, SINERGIA fosters a sense of community and belonging among freshmen.
Workshops and Seminars
Under CODEC, workshops and seminars are key components designed to provide students with hands-on experience and insights into various technological and industry trends. Workshops offer practical, interactive sessions on topics such as coding techniques, software tools, and emerging technologies, allowing students to gain valuable skills and apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. Seminars feature expert speakers from academia and industry who present on advanced topics, share industry experiences, and provide guidance on career development, enriching students’ understanding and broadening their professional perspectives.
KARUTHAL
A strong dedication to social responsibility and community welfare is demonstrated by the CSR initiative “Karuthal” of the Department of Computer Science at RCMAS. The Department regularly participates in initiatives through Karuthal that tackle critical social concerns like environmental preservation, digital literacy, and aid to impoverished communities.
