Description: A tropical tree species known for its small, round, edible fruits and dark timber. The bark is dark or blackish in colour. Leaves are alternate and pedicellate. Leaves are 7-32cm long. Bright pink or reddish young leaves. Flowers are creamy white, borne on an inflorescence and are fragrant. Fruits are round, 5-7.5cm in diameter.

Habitat: Evergreen forests and sacred groves

Distribution: Indo-Malaysia

Uses: Used for its timber and in traditional medicine for various ailments. Fruit is used to treat fever, to be an antidote for snake poisoning. The juice of the fresh bark is useful in the treatment of bilious fevers. Externally, the bark is said to be a good application for treating boils and tumours.
