Acrocephalus dumetorum / Blyth’s Reed Warbler

Acrocephalus dumetorum / Blyth’s Reed Warbler

Blyth’s Reed Warbler is a small, drab bird found across Europe and Asia, known for its rich, varied song. It is a migratory bird in Kerala. It inhabits reed beds, marshes, and damp forests, often seen skulking in dense vegetation. This warbler feeds on insects, spiders, and small invertebrates. During migration, it travels long distances between its breeding and wintering grounds. Blyth’s Reed Warbler builds cup-shaped nests low in vegetation, often near water. Its cryptic plumage provides excellent camouflage, making it difficult to spot. The bird’s melodious song is often the first indication of its presence in an area.
