Brahminy Kite Haliastur indus

The Brahminy Kite is a medium-sized bird of prey found in South and Southeast Asia and Australia. It is easily recognized by its chestnut plumage and contrasting white head and breast. This kite prefers coastal and wetland habitats, where it feeds on fish, small mammals, and carrion. It is known for its graceful, soaring flight and distinctive, mewing call. The Brahminy Kite often nests in trees near water bodies, using sticks and other materials. This bird plays an important role in its ecosystem by helping to control fish and small animal populations, as well as scavenging carrion.
