Indian Pitta Pitta brachyura

The Indian Pitta is a brightly colored bird found in the Indian subcontinent, known for its vivid plumage of blue, green, and orange. It has nine various colors and hence it is otherwise known as ‘navarang’. It inhabits deciduous forests and scrublands, often staying close to the ground. The Indian Pitta is known for its distinctive two-note whistle, often heard at dawn and dusk. It feeds on insects, spiders, and small invertebrates, foraging on the forest floor. This bird is migratory, with populations moving to different areas seasonally. The Indian Pitta builds a dome-shaped nest on the ground, using leaves and twigs. Its striking appearance and vocalizations make it a favorite among birdwatchers. It is migratory bird to South India that travels from the Himalayas.
