Description

A tall tropical tree with straight bole often with buttress. Leaves are compound. On breaking the bark a brownish-black resinous exudation oozes out. Flowers polygamous, bright yellow; in large axillary panicles. Fruit a drupe, ellipsoid, dark blue, 1-3-celled; seeds 1-3.

Habitat:  Semi evergreen forests, moist deciduous forests.

Distribution: India and Upper Myanmar

Uses: Bark decoction as a bath for skin eruptions. An infusion taken for colic. Gum used with gingelly oil in rheumatic pain. Decoction or powder of resin given internally as a remedy for cough, fever, epilepsy, asthma, syphilis, blood impurities, hernia, chronic skin diseases and haemorrhage.
