Description: It is a solitary-stemmed palm reaching to a height of 10–12 m with 8–10cm diameter. It is slightly bulging at the base and is light grey in colour. The stem has prominent leaf scars encircling the trunk. The pinnately compound leaves may reach a length of 2-2.5m and are attached to a 30cm long petiole. Leaves are dark green on the upperside and gray-green on the underside. Leaflets are about 50cm long, narrowly oblong blades that are bluntly squared at the tip. The highly branched, green-yellow inflorescences are 50-80cm long. Inflorescences produce white male and female flowers. Fruits are bright red, about one inch in diameter, and are egg shaped.

 

 

Distribution:  All throughout the world in gardens

Uses: Ornamental plant in gardens and roadsides.
