Description: A small tree or shrub, with thick and dense crown, usually grows up to 10m in height. Leaves are simple, alternate, stalked with leathery leaf blades that are light green, heart-shaped, and 7–23cm long and 5–16cm wide. Flowers are bisexual, bell-shaped, 6–8cm long and 7cm wide, solitary in leaf axils. Flowers are yellow with maroon center. Mature flowers that are about to sencescense turns pink and remain on the plant for 1-2 days.
Distribution: Throughout the tropical countries.
Uses: Various parts of the plant are used in traditional Indian medicine for their antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hepatoprotective properties. The wood is strong, hard, and durable, making it ideal for a variety of uses such as Boat building, Musical instruments, Vehicle bodies, Horse-drawn carts and wheelbarrows, Bowls, etc. Leaves are a good source of protein, calcium, and phosphorus for livestock. Bark yields a strong fiber used for cordage, fishing lines, coffee bags, and caulking boats. Used as a natural dye for various fabrics.
